HEARTWORM PREVENTION |
 |
|
With the onset of warmer weather, mosquito
populations increase!! The mosquito is the transmitter of heartworms, a potentially fatal
parasitic infection of dogs (and less commonly cats).
Heartworm infection in dogs can cause weight loss, coughing, fatigue, etc. Early and
accurate detection of heartworms by blood testing is an essential step in prevention or
treatment.
With early detection, by annual blood testing, dogs with Heartworm may often be safely and
successfully treated by a veterinary professional.
Prevention for Heartworm disease, once a negative test has been documented, is available
in several forms. Sentinel is one of our preferred types of preventive medication. This product in flavored
tablet form when given monthly (as veterinary recommended) prevents heartworms, deworms
for hookworm, and aids in flea control!
